Regenerative Health Providers and Physicians
The regenerative health providers at QC Kinetix are highly trained doctors and physician assistants who are board certified in sports medicine, orthopedic medicine and surgery, emergency medicine, geriatrics, and pain management. Each took their own path to discover the power of regenerative medicine to alleviate pain for their patients. We’re proud to work with these compassionate and skilled healers at the QC Kinetix regenerative health centers nationwide.
Non-Invasive Surgical Alternative
Some causes of persistent musculoskeletal pain must be resolved through surgery. When we see cases like this, our regenerative health providers let our patients know their best course of action resides with a surgeon. But surgery is often not the only option or the best solution for many patients. Many of our physicians have seen patients undergo surgery only to compound their initial pain. Our minimally invasive, nonsurgical regenerative treatments for joint pain harness the enormous power of the human body to repair and renew itself. In this way, we go to the source of the pain to resolve it naturally.
Many of our physicians and regenerative health providers began their careers in sports medicine. Working with professional athletes to mend broken bones and repair torn ligaments and tendons is highly rewarding. But too often, professional athletes and weekend warriors push themselves to return to the activities they love before they have fully healed from surgery.
Unfortunately, orthopedic surgery often does as much or more damage to the body than the injury it seeks to repair. So a lengthy and painful recovery period is necessary. Regenerative medicine is an entirely different approach that enlists the body’s abilities to heal and repair its damaged tissues.
Pain-Free Without Pills
Some of our regenerative health physicians have spent years combatting repeated opioid prescriptions and the resulting opioid addictions. It is so difficult for a doctor to gaze into the pain-filled eyes of their patients and refuse to help. But this understandable compassion has led to the nightmare of opioid abuse.
So, rather than masking their patients’ pain temporarily, which invites reinjury, these physicians found their way to regenerative medicine instead. They can now provide their patients with genuine pain relief through natural biologic treatments that alleviate low back pain, elbow pain, knee pain, and more.
Even steroids are not the cure-all some doctors make them out to be. Although oral and injected steroids relieve inflammation, they have the potential for some pretty nasty side effects. And the injection of steroids can break down cartilage at the injection site, which leads to more pain. Our regenerative health providers with a background in pain management provide natural treatments that repair and resolve pain without compounding it with additional stress and toxic side effects.
Medical Management Team
Dr. Debra T. Cooper, MD
Dr. Cooper is a board-certified emergency medicine physician who graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2002. She completed her internship and residency at Wake Forest Baptist University School of Medicine in 2005 in Winston-Salem, NC. She practices emergency medicine in a community hospital in the greater Atlanta area. Debra’s 16 years as an attending emergency physician have included performing many procedures such as lumbar punctures, inserting central lines using ultrasound guidance, intubations, chest tubes, and joint aspirations.
Prior to medical school, Debra first worked in health care as a hospital volunteer on an orthopedic surgical unit at the age of 14. She knew that a medical career was her passion from a very young age and became employed at age 17 in a physical rehabilitation hospital while starting her pre-physical therapy program at LSU. She completed her BS in PT from LSU medical center in New Orleans, then moved to Indianapolis, where she worked as a physical therapist in a level 1 trauma center.
In 1996, Debra was privileged to be a medical missionary in Kikuyu, Kenya for 2 months. While there, she worked in an orphanage for disabled children and worked alongside an orthopedic surgeon rehabilitating patients after injuries, illness and surgery. From that experience, Debra felt called to go to medical school upon her return to the US.
Debra works hard to live a healthy life that includes strength-training and long outdoor walks, along with (relatively) clean eating. In addition to mothering her amazing three kids and two dogs, she enjoys music, church involvement, and travel. Her passion to be fit partly stems from helping her parents when suffering from severe chronic pain from osteoarthritis and other health challenges. She understands the difficult cycle of injury or aging pain that leads to immobility, which then leads to steroid injections, narcotic medications, multiple surgeries and weight-gain. Also this can lead to job loss and the inability to engage in travel and other life-giving activities. This life experience has led Debra to pursue the exciting field of regenerative medicine as a better option for many people. She is delighted to working with QC Kinetix in both the Augusta and Atlanta clinics, and she looks forward to helping patients achieve a higher quality of life!
